My name is Kirsten and I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (#16708) with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors. You might feel stuck, alone or overwhelmed. I have also felt like this and found the support of a counsellor helped me to make positive changes in my life. My hope as a counsellor is to offer a professional relationship that is accepting and non-judgemental, but also objective and truthful. I hold a Masters in Clinical Counselling from Simon Fraser University. I specialize in substance-use and behaviours, like gambling, that are creating distress in your life. I also treat mood disorders, sleep problems, depression, anxiety, panic attacks, PTSD, stress-related problems, and grief and loss, as well as working with couples and families. I use a variety of approaches to support clients, working together to determine the best fit for you. Some examples include: CBT, Motivational Interviewing, Solution Focused, and Emotion Focused therapy. I appreciate that each client brings their own history of trauma and relationship histories.
I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors, and obtained my Master’s of Counselling degree from City University in 2021. I have experience working with relational trauma’s, depression, anxiety, grief and loss, substance use, life transitions, intimate relationships and burnout. I work with adults 18+.
Throughout my personal and professional journey, I have come to realize that people are resilient and capable - we have all the resources within to overcome challenges and create a life that is meaningful and fulfilling. However the pressures of modern living often leave us tired and disconnected from this inner wisdom which lead to feeling stuck, dissatisfied, and can contribute to experiences of mental health conditions. As your counsellor, I offer a warm, supportive and non-judgemental space where we will take the time to get to know you. A space where you can be yourself, a space to breathe, grow and connect with your inner wisdom. Together we will create a plan to help you meet your goals for wellness. My approach to counselling is holistic, client-centred and eclectic. I draw from mindfulness, emotion focused, DBT and CBT modalities. My style is gentle and the approach I use will vary depending upon your unique goals and ability. **Not taking on new clients until February 2024**
Walking alongside you on your journey to living a well-lived life would be an honor. I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Child and Youth Care and a Masters's Degree in Social Work. I am registered with the British Columbia College of Social Workers (16247). For the past ten years, I have worked with individuals, children, youth, and families from diverse backgrounds, specializing in providing therapy to children and youth dealing with trauma, anxiety, relational and behavioral challenges. I approach my clients with warmth, respect, and understanding. Although I have training in specific therapeutic modalities such as EFFT, CBT, DBT, Mindfulness, etc., my approach is eclectic and fits with a client's strengths, values, and experiences. I practice from a trauma-informed, attachment-based approach rooted in anti-oppressive practice where I help clients move forward in a good way by providing tools for awareness while recognizing their intrinsic ability to heal. As a lifelong learner, I am committed to ongoing professional development, allowing me to be genuinely present during sessions, and equipped with the knowledge and skills to support those I work with.
I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor with a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology.
I have been providing therapy since 2009 and I specialize in individual, couples, family, and group therapy. I employ an array of approaches to treatment that are customized to each of my client's unique needs namely, Psychodynamic Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Existential Psychotherapy.
As the daughter of a University Professor of Psychology I consider counselling to be a family tradition. My mantra is “life is too short to over-think and worry about hypothetical scenarios that may never happen!”
I have 9 years of clinical experience, post Masters, in substance misuse (as well as problems with excessive shopping, sexual behaviours, and eating disorders), anxiety and depression, anger, grief and loss, psychiatric concerns, relationship, parenting and cross-cultural concerns, and have been in the field for a total of 14 years. I tend utilize a holistic approach, drawing from a number of therapeutic approaches such as cognitive behavioural, solution-focused, existential, narrative and emotion-focused. I believe that each client is unique and deserves tailor made synergy. I am grateful for the opportunity to be able to work with my client's in a collaborative search for peace and healing. I hope that in our time spent together we are able to mitigate, what we perceive as stress, if only for a moment, and I wish to do so by advocating self-development and self-actualization. I look forward to our paths crossing. **I do not offer in-person sessions at this time**
